Autónomo.eus is a free, independent guide for foreigners who want to live and work as an autónomo in the Basque Country (Euskadi). **It is general information, not legal, immigration or tax advice, and it is not an official government website.**

## Who writes it

I am **Abdalsalaam Halawa**, a Palestinian living in Bilbao. You can find more about me at [halawa.io](https://halawa.io).

I went through most of the steps in this guide myself after I moved to Euskadi. The information exists, but it is spread across dozens of official websites, often only in Spanish or Basque, and it is hard to know where to start or which page applies to you.

I could not have done it alone. Thank you to the Spanish friends who helped me at several stages along the way. Not everyone who arrives has a Spanish friend to ask, and I hope this guide can help a little in their place.

I made Autónomo.eus as a personal initiative, so that people who arrive after me do not get lost between sources and can get settled as soon as possible. The "From our experience" notes on some pages describe what happened to us.

## Independent and free

Autónomo.eus is not linked to any government office, gestoría, bank or law firm, and nobody pays to appear on it. It has no ads and no affiliate links.

## How each page is checked

- Facts come from official sources wherever possible: the Basque Government, the three Haciendas Forales, Social Security, the Government Delegation, town halls, Lanbide, Osakidetza and the official state gazette (BOE). When a page relies on another source, it says so.
- Each page lists those sources under "Official sources", with links.
- Each page shows the date its facts were last checked.
- Rules, amounts and dates change every year. Before you act, open the official page listed under "Official sources" on the page you are reading.

## What the guide is not

- It is not legal or tax advice. For your own case, ask the office in charge or a professional. The phone numbers and booking links of every office are on [Find an office](https://autonomo.eus/steps/offices). [Free legal help](https://autonomo.eus/steps/legal-help) is available for immigration questions.
- It is not a gestoría. You do every step yourself, at the official offices and websites.
- It does not tell you which permit you qualify for.

## Your data

- The guide never asks for your personal data. There are no accounts.
- Your checklist ticks and your territory choice are saved only in your own browser.

## Report a mistake

If a page is wrong or out of date, email a@halawa.io with the page name. I check the official source, fix the page and update its "Last checked" date.
